[0:04] From Hi-Fi Speakers, I am Mark Whitney with today's Educational Minute.

[0:10] Listen up. This is about selecting your topic, right? When selecting a topic becomes difficult, it's time to open up your mind to the fact that this is not hard. There are only two things to write and speak about. What's going on with you? What's going on in the world? Personal experience. The more personal involvement, interest, and enthusiasm you bring to a speech, the more likely your audience will respond positively. Personal experiences cause the speaker to deliver the speech with conviction because the subject matter is not separated from the speaker's daily life or history. There's a surplus of subject matter relating to your personal experience. Little things, big things, right? So here are a few ways to think about that. What are you interested in? Your sports, hobbies, travel, entertainment, values, goals. What do you do at work career-wise? Business processes you have to deal with. Things that drive you crazy.

[1:14] Ethics, investments, retirement. What's going on with your career? What's going on at home with the family? Ancestors, child-rearing insights, marriage, traditions. Right. My mom is is 88. She's a heavy lift. Let me tell you, I can barely get her up on the changing table. Education, study habits, achievements, memorable teachers, subjects. Nostalgia is a very powerful emotional tool.

[1:40] OK, so consider these things when selecting your topic and you will have great success. We're here every Monday through Friday at 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. My HiFi dot club.
